Structure of flower

The bracts wrap bud and protect flower till it flowers. The total number of bracts almost equals petals' one.

The sunflower has capitate flowers. It grows like a disk and has many small flowers densely. The capitate flowers is composed of several tongue flowers and tubular flowers. It begins to grow from outside to inside.

After a tubular flower flowers, stamens come out from it. They are also tubulous and the pistil is wrapped inside of them. After the pollen overflows from the anther of the tip of stamen, a pistil grows and comes out from in them.

After the style of the pistil grows long, the stigma opens to pollinate. If the pollen sticks to the stigma, it goes into an ovary through in the style. If the pollen sticks to the ovule in the ovary, the ovule grows up and becomes seed.

It begins to flower from the outside of capitate flowers. Alike, a seed grows up from outside. As it grows, the capitate flowers becomes roundish.
