the art of cultivation which I have learned

in case of planting at the field
(no transplanting)

  • sowing
After plowing lightly and making the soil soft, plant seed one by one into the hole digged by your finger(the depth is about a second knuckle of index finger), and cover each one with soil softly. The thickness you cover seeds with earth soil is about 10mm. After then, water gently and make the surface of soil be moist. Seeding at evening is ideal. It takes one week on the average till the seeds germinate from sowing. Water them more than two times everyday during the seeds is in the soil.
  • watering
Sunflower is strong for hot temperature, but you forget to water them, and they will be wither soon, and die before long. Please water them regularly every morning and evening. If you do that, sunflowers will be happy. And do not only the surface of soil but entirely stems and leaves of sunflowers. This causes to prevent them from ticks and to make a early discovery of insects causing damage to crops. However, take care that you do not water them too much but do it regularly.
  • fertilizer
If you would like to make the sunflower be bigger, I recommend that you will fertilize land the compost or the humus before seeding and the liquid fertilizer or the chemical fertilizer after sprouting from the soil. And spread fertilizer once for a week on the land. In case of a potted plant, do it once for two weeks. More times giving a little amount of fertilizer, more splendid flowers you can make bloom.
  • picking seeds
After flowering and die, the seeds soon start to glow big little by little from center of flower and the heavy head is going to droop under the weight of the seeds. It is going to be the moderate time to pick seeds more than a month later after withering. And then, you will see how firm (mature) the seed is. So you need to pick up the several seeds to examine that. If the seeds are solid enough in gripping the center of the seed strongly with your fingers, the sunflower's seeds are mature. After then, cut flower with its stem and make it dry on the well ventilated place for a few week. At this time, you should be careful about the birds going to eat the seeds. The seeds drying enough, pick and put them in the pouch. And keep them on the cool place. Let's make the nice sunflower bloom next year again.

In the case of transplanting to the pot after sprouting, be careful about the following things.

  2. avoiding the place where the sun comes all the day time
  3. spreading fertilizer
